China Mieville's The Scar is a a deeply melacholy and beautiful romp. It explores the same world that Perdido Street Station is set in, but avoids actually revealing or defining anything. It's magnificent and aweing how carefully Mieville lays out each influence, each possibility, each nigh. I won't spoil any of the plot for you. It's a book of scale, from the paper to the plot to the people. This is a big, heavy, hungry beast, that just merely happens to look like a book. Buyer beware, you may have your brains eaten by weird and wonderful ideas. You may enjoy it, too.
